Keluarga Malaysia values can pave the way towards national recovery

KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s priority is to fight the health and economic crisis without leaving anyone behind, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The effort towards national recovery, he said, could be achieved by continuing to cultivate, sow, and uphold the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ values of inclusivity, common ground, and contentment.

“This success will allow us to pave the way for the country’s economic recovery in a new, post-pandemic norm.

“The economy should be revived, the wellbeing of the people should be improved and investor confidence should be restored.

“Rest assured that only through full cooperation of Keluarga Malaysia will the war against the Covid-19 pandemic end in victory.”

Ismail Sabri was speaking at the pre-launch of ‘Keluarga Malaysia’, which was also attended by cabinet ministers, including Senior Ministers and other senior government officials.

He said to ensure the success of the Keluarga Malaysia idea, each ministry and agency is actively identifying suitable products to be made part of its efforts to help the people.

This, he added, was a step towards inculcating a culture of service, based on performance to alleviate the burden of Keluarga Malaysia who needed help and support.

“In this regard, the government will ensure each Keluarga Malaysia product will bring a positive impact as hoped.

“Therefore, the government has also introduced the Key Happiness Outcome (KHO) which is also complementary to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

“These guidelines will be based on existing universal values, including the Happiness Index applicable in most countries around the world,” said Ismail Sabri.

He said various actions and efforts across ministries and agencies have also been arranged to facilitate the implementation of programmes and initiatives for the people quickly and effectively.

One example, he said, was the launch of Rumah Ikram Keluarga Malaysia, which was announced just 24 days after the formation of the new cabinet.

The Rumah Ikram Keluarga Malaysia, an initiative under the Housing and Local Government Ministry, would provide 2,000 units of homes to families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The ministries, through continuous coordination, have formulated various initiatives and efforts to ensure that no one will be left behind.

“The concept and approach of Keluarga Malaysia is not something difficult to digest, as it is based on existing values that we have in every family.

“What the government is doing is to harmonise and uphold these values as a guide to further strengthen Malaysia, with the uniqueness of various religions, races, and ethnicities.”

He said all three Keluarga Malaysia values were centred on a pillar of the Rukun Negara, namely ‘Keluhuran Perlembagaan’ or Supremacy of the Constitution.

“Like a tree, Keluarga Malaysia is rooted in the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara, while the branches and twigs strongly uphold the values of Keluarga Malaysia, which turns into lush leaves, flowers and fruits, benefitting the people,” he added.

At the event, Ismail Sabri also launched a Skuad Keluarga Malaysia, which will coordinate all aid delivery mechanisms for people in need nationwide under one machinery.

He said the Skuad Keluarga Malaysia would be led by the Social Welfare Department under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, and was a collaboration between various agencies under different ministries, private sector and non-governmental organisations.

He added that over 10,000 members of the Skuad Keluarga Malaysia were ready to be mobilised across the nation to help those affected by the pandemic.

“This number is expected to increase when more ministries, agencies and Keluarga Malaysia volunteers register.”
