YAYASAN KELUARGA MALAYSIA ALLOCATES RM1.27 MLN TO HELP COVID-19 ORPHANS

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) — Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia (YKM) has allocated RM1.27 million to help those who have lost their parents due to COVID-19 through the YKM Assistance and Schooling Assistance.

YKM chairman Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the YKM Assistance would be credited directly to the recipient’s account in three phases, namely on March 20, as well as in July and November, involving two categories of recipients.

Category A involves recipients aged from one day to 15 years who will receive a contribution of RM2,000 while category B involves children aged 16 until the completion of their first bachelor’s degree, who will receive a contribution of RM2,500.

He said when the schooling session opened recently, YKM also channelled School Assistance of  RM300 to the 589 recipients involving a total allocation of RM176,700.

“Even though two years have passed, the effects of this pandemic are still felt. Some of these children are still traumatised. These children should not be forgotten.

“They still need help, however, YKM cannot do it alone. We call on the corporate entities and the public to come together to help these children,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, Ismail Sabri attended a breaking of fast ceremony and handed over YKM Assistance to 109 COVID-19 orphans at a hotel here today, symbolising the beginning of the YKM assistance distribution for this year.

The orphans were also taken to the Sogo shopping centre here to purchase clothes for Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period next month.
